It tells the story of a high school boy, separated from his family by the political troubles in Ireland. He is sent to live with relatives in Brooklyn NY where he endures bullying, beatings, and crushing homesickness. In spite of all this, his gym teacher/track coach discovers the boy has phenomenal speed and trains him, over a period of six months, to win the national AAU championship for the 800 Meters.
